On the road to nowhere

Western suburbs MP Bernie Finn has called for action to help ease traffic congestion on Point Cook Road.

In Parliament last month, Mr Finn asked the Minister for Roads Luke Donnellan what he was doing to improve traffic on the road, which runs through both Wyndham and Hobsons Bay municipalities.

“Every morning locals’ patience is put to the test as they crawl along Point Cook Road for the joy of then crawling along the Princes and West Gate freeways,” Mr Finn said.

“It is an intolerable situation that impacts on the livability of large portions of Melbourne’s west.”

Earlier this year, the state government provided VicRoads with $250,000 to develop a business case to improve traffic on Point Cook Road, between Dunnings Road and Railway Avenue.

As part of the project, VicRoads has conducted an online survey into traffic along that stretch. The survey asked participants if they would support an alternative entry and exit ramp to the Princes Freeway to avoid the Aviation Road shopping centre in Laverton.

VicRoads’ transport and planning, director David Teague said: “Community feedback is being considered in the development of a business case for potential improvements”.

Star Weekly contacted a representative of Mr Donnellan for comment.
