The worm is slowly turning for Truganina in Football Federation Victoria’s men’s state league 4.
Three draws in the past four games have moved the Hornets in the right direction after they claimed just one point in the previous five matches.
It remains a troubling time for the Hornets, a team that is central to a relegation battle being waged between five struggling clubs separated by just two points.
Hornets’ coach, Sergio Lunedei, was left flustered after a pulsating 2-2 draw with bottom side Maribyrnong Greens at Arndell Park Reserve on Saturday.
“It was probably not the result we were looking for,” he told Star Weekly. “We didn’t play the perfect game this week so we got what we deserved.”
It was a deflating performance for Truganina after showing so much form the previous week.
The Hornets had held runaway ladder-leader and odds-on title favourite Brimbank Stallions to a draw just a week earlier.
“The week before, we played a massive game against Brimbank, and probably deserved to win,” Lunedei said. “We’re slowly getting points, but only one point at a time.
“We’re not getting that win … it seems like we’re cursed.”
Yaw Oteng was superb for the Hornets, sparking up the game with two goals to make it three in his past two outings.
“It was hard for them to keep him under control,” Lunedei said.
“He had four players on him and, even with that, he scored two beautiful goals.
“In saying that, we weren’t smart enough to open up the game and use the other two strikers in the 4-3-3, so we had our faults as a team.
“We should’ve played better.”
The coming month is critical for Truganina to start piling up the points.
There are a number of sides around them on the ladder in what will be viewed as ‘six-point’ games.
“We’ve been picking up a point against the top teams, so against the bottom sides we should be getting more points out of them,” Lunedei said.
