Werribee City stalled in the starting gates last week and never recovered, trailing by two goals within 24 minutes.

This week, the Bees were buzzing from the get-go, scoring twice in the opening eight minutes to set up a 3-0 win over Murray United in Football Federation Victoria’s NPL2 west.

Jonathan Voulgaris and Shaun Weaver had the Bees two up in no time at Galvin Park on Sunday, before Weaver made it a double just after half-time.

Weaver’s been a huge addition for the Bees, scoring four times in four matches.

The Bees have amassed 16 points, 14 of them in the past seven games.

Sergio Sabbadini’s team will go in search of more when they host fourth-placed North Geelong Warriors on Sunday.

In state league 2, Hoppers Crossing had a disappointing 2-1 loss to Fitzroy City at Grange Reserve.

Fitzroy has become the Reds’ bogey side this season, beating them in both their games.

Liam McDermott was the Reds’ lone goal- scorer, taking his season tally to four.

The Reds, which are four points behind second-placed Essendon Royals, will visit Essendon United to face off in a pivotal catch-up game to be played at JH Allan Reserve on Saturday.

In state league 4, Point Cook dismantled Melton Phoenix 8-0 at Saltwater Reserve. The Jets were scoring goals for fun, including doubles for Dale Howarth, Kyle Caruana and Chris Sutera.

Sitting third on the ladder, Point Cook is well and truly in the promotion mix, just two points outside the top two. The Jets have a week’s break before a trip to sixth-placed Newmarket Phoenix.
