Point Cook’s promotion dream is over

Point Cook will stay down in Football Federation Victoria men’s state league 4.

The Jets conceded two scrappy goals in a 2-1 promotion semi-final play-off loss to FC Strathmore at JL Murphy Reserve in Port Melbourne on Saturday.

FC Strathmore will go on to play third-bottom state league 3 club Western Eagles in the promotion/relegation final, while Point Cook will have another tough year to get out of state league 4.

Meanwhile, Werribee City’s awards night gave the ever-consistent Jonathan Voulgaris the Danny Tiatto award for champion player in the seniors. Voulgaris was also voted the players’ player of the year. Shaun Weaver claimed the golden boot, while Zach Ahmed was the best young player under-21.
