Wyndham bodybuilding and fitness competitors put on a strong performance at the weekend, bringing home a haul of medals.

The AWA Bendigo Classic, held last Saturday at the Capital Theatre in Bendigo, is one of the most prestigious shows on the fitness and bodybuilding event calendar.

Five Wyndham athletes competed against more than 100 from around the country in bodybuilding, fitness modelling and aerobics.

Bodybuilder Tim Austin, fitness model Emma Grant and masters bodybuilder Brad McDonall were among the competitors.

McDonall came second in the over-35 masters division and said he felt there was “definitely room for improvement”.

“I was able to relax on Sunday and I’m back into training today for the next two events,” said McDonall, who is training for the Victorian and Australian championships.

Austin came second in the class 1 men’s division for athletes taller than 1.79 metres and weighing under 87 kilograms, and said he was thrilled with the result – “especially it being my first competition”.

“I have a couple more events coming up in the next few weeks and if I can get the same results or better I’ll be really happy,” he said.

Grant, of Point Cook, placed fourth in her category and is training for an International Bodybuilding Australia Victorian title to be decided at Moonee Valley racecourse this weekend.

“This was my second competition,” she said. “I feel good, I feel healthy and I love it.

“I want to get all the feedback I can so hopefully it will help me with my future events.”

Hayley Cobble and Brad Cook, both from Wyndham, also competed at the weekend.
