Wyndham residents have launched a high-visibility campaign in opposition of the proposed $288 million Werribee South high-security youth prison.

Campaigners are taking advantage of the traffic that will be flowing along the Princes Freeway to the Avalon Airshow this weekend to air their grievances about the state government’s preferred Hoppers Lane location.

Werribee South farmers have erected a large sign bearing the words “Youth Detention Centre: wrong location, no consultation” on a parcel of land next to the proposed site which fronts the Princes Freeway, Geelong-bound.

Meanwhile, members from the Speak Out – Wyndham’s Voice group will be holding banners and signs over the Farm Road Bridge, Werribee, for an hour on Saturday morning, hoping to catch the eye of the thousands of cars expected to drive under the bridge on their way to the airshow.
