A treasure trove of memorabilia believed to date back to World War I has been found during a police sting in Werribee.
Police are desperate to locate the owners of a number of photographs, war medals and coins, including a group shot titled ‘Officers, Cadets, NCOs and Men, Australian Flying Corps, Wendover, March 1918’.
It’s believed some of the memorabilia dates back to World War I, while a variety of family photos appear to date back from early last century.
Police believe the items likely hold high sentimental value and have released images of the property in the hope the owners recognise it and come forward.
The items were found on August 31 when members of the Altona North Divisional Response Unit, with the assistance of the Special Operations Group, executed a warrant at a Sanderling Street property as part of an ongoing investigation.
Police seized the memorabilia, an extensive amount of what appears to be stolen property, drugs and firearms from the address.
A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with 12 offences, including theft, breaching an intervention order and possession of cannabis, GHB and methamphetamine.
The man was remanded in custody and will appear in court again at a later date.
Anyone with information about the items should contact Senior Constable Dominic Musolino at Altona North Divisional Response Unit on 9392 3191.
