Suite of help for families in crisis

Health help: A not-for-profit organisation has launched a range of services including child counselling, financial counselling and bulk-billing psychologist sessions in Wyndham Vale.

FMC Mediation & Counselling (FMC), which was previously based in Werribee, will also offer family and relationship counselling from its new premises at IPC Health Wyndham Vale.

Within the past year the service had supported more than 300 Wyndham residents who had been involved in family violence, according to FMC’s chief executive Serge Sardo.

He said people also sought help from FMC for financial stress.

“Providing the local community access to preventative services and meeting the demand to areas of great need is a priority for FMC,” Mr Sardo said.

“Some of the issues they come to us with are situations such as conflict when separating, children experiencing difficulties both at home and quite often in school, and people in dire financial circumstances where they need their debts to be negotiated.”

Mr Sardo said FMC could also link people to community, legal, health and government organisations.

“[This] may help encourage people facing family and relationship issues to seek early help and intervention before their situation escalates, by creating a safety net for the most vulnerable,” he said.
