Wyndham residents are being encouraged to pick up a racquet.

Wyndham council has partnered with Tennis Victoria for Melbourne Tennis Month, which encourages people to get involved with their local tennis club during February.

As part of the initiative, the Hoppers Crossing Tennis Club will host free, one-hour court bookings on Sunday, February 17.

Sports development portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard said anyone curious about tennis should give the sport a go.

“Tennis is a sport for all ages and all abilities – that’s why we’re encouraging locals to join in on the fun,” Cr Maynard said.

Tennis Victoria acting chief executive Belinda Kleverlaan said other councils in the west, including Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Brimbank and Melton, had also joined Melbourne Tennis Month.

“The fact that there are so many clubs on board and councils ready to assist in such an important way really shows how tennis is able to effectively engage the community to get out, get active and have fun,” she said.

On Sunday, the free one-hour court bookings will run between 9am and 5pm.

The centre is at Wootten Road Reserve, Tarneit. Bring your own racquet, water bottle and sunscreen. Tennis balls available.
