One of the nation’s largest parcel delivery businesses has officially opened a new logistics facility in Wyndham.

CouriersPlease has relocated its Port Melbourne depot to the Drystone Industrial Estate in Truganina.

Developed by Charter Hall Group and Commercial and Industrial Property, the estate is already home to other distribution centres for major Australian companies, including Kmart and The Reject Shop.

The new CouriersPlease site is 29,000 square metres in total, with a 12,500 square metre building which accommodates more than 160 courier vehicles.

The Truganina depot has 80 staff and employs 110 franchisees.

CouriersPlease, which also has a facility in Mulgrave, has relocated three of its interstate depots during the past 12 months.

The company’s chief executive Mark McGinley said this had been done to accommodate significant growth in the amount of parcels moving through the CouriersPlease network.

“Our commitment in moving to the west
of Melbourne has stemmed from it being a massive growth corridor with some of the highest rates of online shopping in the country,” he said.

“The growth in eCommerce is fuelling an increase in parcel delivery, and we are investing in infrastructure to accommodate for the future growth of parcel volumes.”

Wyndham council’s future focused economy portfolio holder, Cr Walter Villagonzalo, said the arrival of CouriersPlease in Wyndham would bring many benefits to the area.

“Not only has CouriersPlease delivered new jobs to Wyndham, but also the potential for budding first-time business owners to operate their own franchise supported by a well-respected and long-time player in the small parcel delivery industry,” Cr Villagonzalo said.

“We welcome them with open arms as they are another example of major businesses choosing to call Wyndham home.”
