New Werribee vaccination hub

A new COVID-19 vaccination hub will open at the Wyndham council civic centre in Werribee from Thursday.

Mayor Adele Hegedich said the hub, to be operated by Western Health, “was a first of its kind” for local government in Victoria.

“We’re proud to be partnering with the state government to see our community vaccinated against COVID-19,” Cr Hegedich said.

“As part of this partnership, we’ll see the functions area of the Wyndham City Council civic centre transformed into a vaccination hub three days a week, from 8.30am to 4pm, to support the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“Residents who are eligible to be vaccinated no longer need to travel to the Sunshine Hospital, and can now book via the Victorian online COVID-19 vaccine booking system or the COVID-19 hotline to secure an appointment.”

Cr Hegedich said AstraZeneca would be the only vaccine offered from the hub for the coming weeks, but Pfizer is expected to be offered once further supply is available.

“At Wyndham, we’re committed to doing all we can to prevent further COVID-19 outbreaks,” Cr Hegedich said.

“As the local government area that was hit hardest by the virus last year, we want to see as much of our community vaccinated as possible.

“We know that vaccines work.

“We know that the vaccine is our ticket out of this pandemic.

“We saw this in a number of cases in recent weeks, where the effectiveness of the vaccine was highlighted.

“For example, in Sydney, among 30 attendees at a party all but six partygoers tested positive to COVID-19.

“These six people were healthcare workers who were vaccinated.”

Cr Hegedich advised residents who are keen to get vaccinated to have a conversation

with their local GP first.

The vaccination hub will run from Thursday, and then weekly from Wednesday to Friday until at least the end of the year.

To book an appointment at the Wyndham civic centre vaccination hub, 45 Princes Highway, Werribee, visit https://covid-19vaccination.wh.org.au/vaccination-booking/wyndham/ or phone 1800 675 398.
