Murals of colourful creatures painted on water tanks at the Werribee Bowls Club has proved a hit with the community.

Steve Weston, who is on the club’s managing board of directors, said the idea for the project came about after the historic water tower in Werribee was transformed into a public artwork a few years ago.

Local artist Kurt Zincke has created the mural at the bowls club, with the concept inspired by the nearby Werribee River and wildlife.

A bee, fish, platypus and lorikeet have been painted so far, with plans for other animals and trees to soon be painted on other water tanks and a wall.

Mr Weston said people walking past the bowls club have been stopping to take photos of the art.

“Even in the short time it’s been up, there have been so many people saying: ‘How fantastic does it look?’” he said.

Within three days of the club posting photos of the water tanks online, they had 700 views and 150 engagements on social media.

Mr Weston said the club hoped to become part of the Werribee Art Trail.
