A Werribee house that dates back to 1926 and is connected to a well-known farming family has been sold.

Michelle Chick from Ray White Werribee said 41 Tower Road sold for $560,000 during an auction, held via an online platform, last week.

Records show the three-bedroom house was last sold in 2007 for $226,000, and fetched a price of $35,000 as far back as 1985.

Ms Chick said the house was originally built on another site, although it is not known where, and was moved to Werribee by the Goegan family.

For many years, the house was located on the Goegan’s five-acre farm in Werribee.

The house at 43 Tower Road was also moved to the area by the Goegan family.

Ms Chick said the nearby Goegan Street in Werribee was named after the family.

Number 41 Tower Road includes collectable 1956 Olympic bricks in its outdoor paving and an old brick oven configuration in the chimney, behind a modern oven.

The house also has a vegetable garden in the front and back yards.

Ms Chick said that during the four-week campaign to sell the house, 58 potential buyers visited the property, many of whom enjoyed hearing about its history.

“We were very controlled and cautious with the visits, using hand-sanitisers, masks, gloves, thermometers and social distancing,” she said.

Ms Chick said 25 people, including five bidders, attended the online auction.

She said achieving a price of $560,000 for the house was a “fabulous result”.

She said that despite the pandemic, Ray White Werribee had seen “no slowdown” in the real estate market.

“From our perspective, the market is still showing a good amount of buyers,” she said.

“It’s definitely business as usual for us.”
