The not-for-profit community WYNBUS project is planning to launch its services in Tarneit next month.

Point Cook Action Group committee member Senthill Sundaram has led a team in developing the WYNBUS public transport app – a mobile ride-share system.

Members of the app can book mini-bus shuttles and bus shuttles online, and select their preferred hop-on and hop-off locations from designated locations.

In 2018, WYNBUS received funding through the state government’s Pick My Project initiative.

Trials of the service, including as school buses, were completed in Point Cook last year and earlier this year.

Mr Sundaram said WYNBUS was now preparing to launch its services in Tarneit’s Riverdale estate during late August, in a program supported by the Nanche Group and co-ordinated by resident Rishi Prabhakar.

WYNBUS has invited Tarneit residents to take part in a survey, to help plan its services in the local area.

The services will be subject to regulatory approvals and COVID-19 guidelines.

Mr Senthill said: “We don’t want people stuck at home because they don’t have a bus near their house or because they can’t afford a taxi or Uber.

“It’s really exciting, the community is really excited about the service.

“We’ve needed an on-demand transport system in Wyndham for some time.”

Mr Sundaram said he hoped the service would expand to include all of Wyndham through further sponsorship.
