Give blood this Christmas

Want to spread some festive cheer this holiday season? Roll up your sleeves and give blood.

More than 360 blood donations are needed in Wyndham between December 24 and January 2 to prevent a possible shortage of blood stocks.

Blood service spokeswoman Stephanie Reynolds said donors who give blood or platelets would receive a text message to let them know where their donation was sent.

“If Secret Santa is about giving anonymous gifts, designed to make someone’s day, then blood donation really is Australia’s ultimate Secret Santa exchange,” she said.

“Blood will be needed by road accident patients, pregnant mums, cancer patients and even premature babies every day this Christmas and New Year’s.”

Ms Reynolds said stocks of platelets, a blood component vital to the treatment of cancer patients, were particularly at risk during the Christmas period.

The Werribee Blood Donor Centre is located at 7 Bridge Street. Call 13 14 95 or visit donateblood.com.au to make an appointment.
