WEstjustice will receive $321,500 in funding from the state and federal governments, as part of efforts to help community legal centres respond to the coronavirus.

WEstjustice, which has offices in Footscray, Werribee and Sunshine, provides free legal help to people in the western suburbs of Melbourne.

The funding will help WEstjustice to continue to deliver frontline legal assistance during the COVID-19 crisis.

The funding will also assist WEstjustice in upgrading its technology, so that more community members will be able to access online legal help.

A statement from the state government said that WEstjustice has been responding to increased demand due to the impacts of COVID-19, providing clients with help on a range of issues including family-violence related matters, fines, tenancy and housing matters.

Werribee MP Tim Pallas said: “WEstjustice does vital work supporting people in our community every day, this extra support recognises that work as well as the challenges of operating during the coronavirus pandemic.”

Footscray MP Katie Hall said: “With this funding boost our community can be assured that they will continue to have a place to turn for legal help when they need it.”
