The state government has purchased land for the future Point Cook police station.

Altona MP Jill Hennessy recently announced the news, after the state government spent $4.5 million to buy a 12,350 square metre site at 85 Point Cook Homestead Road.

“As Point Cook grows rapidly and available land is increasingly limited, this announcement ensures that we have an appropriate site to meet the future planning needs of our community,” Ms Hennessy said.

“Melbourne’s west is one of the fastest-growing areas in the country and securing land now will ensure the community and our police have the facilities they need.

Ms Hennessy said the Wyndham municipality was already serviced by the 24-hour Werribee police station and non-24 hour Wyndham North station.

Earlier this year, the state government allocated 93 new Victoria Police officers to the Westgate division, including 42 officers to specialist roles.

The Westgate division covers the municipalities of Wyndham and Hobsons Bay.

“With more police on the streets than ever before, we’re committed to providing Victoria Police with the resources they need to keep local communities safe right across the state,” Ms Hennessy said.

In May 2018, the state government announced funding to search for, and acquire land for, the future Point Cook police station, as part of its yearly state budget.

At the time, Ms Hennessy said: “I am proud to have secured this critical first step for our community, and will continue to advocate for more police, more protection, and more prevention for my electorate.”

A Victoria Police spokesperson said settlement for the future Point Cook station site occurred on March 30.

“Design, tender, and construction of the police station are subject to the state government budget process,” the spokesperson said.
