Buskers hit sweet spot

Werribee’s main strip has become a stage for musicians, dancers and other performers.

A dedicated busking spot has been allocated on Watton Street, outside hairdressing salon Cuts and Curls, where buskers with permits can entertain shoppers and traders.

Busking veteran Jessica Paige, who worked with Wyndham council staff to choose the designated space, said the location was ideal.

Paige, who plays guitar and sings, has been a busker around Wyndham and other parts of Melbourne for the past 17 years.

She said Watton Street had a beautiful cafe scene and people seem to really appreciate the music.

“The space is near the Black Seed Cafe, and lots of people tend to go there, and it’s also near the pedestrian crossing – it’s one of those spots that, as a seasoned busker, is recognised as a good spot.”

Buskers need a permit to be able to perform and must notify the council of their intention to use the space 48 hours beforehand.
