At a crossroad, council seeks upgrade cash

Wyndham council is chasing state government funding to upgrade two Wyndham Vale intersections.

The council has finalised designs for traffic lights at the Evergreen Drive and Ballan Road junction, and a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Ballan, Greens and McGrath roads to meet the increased traffic demands in the area.

Acting chief executive Kate Roffey said the council was currently seeking state government funding for both projects, which are together estimated to cost $1 million.

“The need for a pedestrian crossing at the Evergreen Drive and Ballan Road intersection has been identified following minor safety concerns,” Ms Roffey said.

“A pedestrian crossing at the McGrath Road intersection is considered necessary to improve safety for people walking to the nearby shops and Iramoo Primary School.

“While designs have been created, they may be subject to change following state government feedback. As such, it is too soon for us to release these designs or speculate on when construction will start.”

Wyndham council data reveals that 22,000 vehicles travel along Ballan Road each day, and about 4000 use Evergreen Drive.
