A new pool for Point Cook, a library for Williams Landing and Werribee South road upgrades were on the agenda for residents keen to see their ideas funded in the upcoming council budget.
Wyndham council received 26 submissions from residents and community groups regarding it’s draft 2017-18 budget and 13 people fronted last week’s council meeting to put forward projects for budget
consideration.
Alaine Beek from Essence Productions said she was keen to see the council improve the lighting to the Werribee Park precinct.
“We have one of the best tourism attractions in Victoria, can we find the money to fix the lighting after dark so that when people go there they don’t get lost, [which] happens all the time,” Ms Beek said.
“We should fix the lighting and match the standard of the attraction.”
Chris Burton from the Werribee Cricket Club called on the council to redevelop the cricket training facility at Chirnside Park to bring it in line with the current $11.75 million redevelopment of the facility.
Mr Burton, who estimated the upgrade would cost about $220,000, said the cricket nets would look outdated next to the revamped football ground and pavilion.
Other suggestions included:
• Council entering a public/private partnership to build a swimming pool in Point Cook;
• Adding more features, such as fitness stations and picnic-style seating, at local parks;
• Replacing the surface of the football oval at Chirnside Park;
• Duplicating Hoppers Lane South before the Duncans Road-Princes Freeway interchange works take place;
• A community centre and library in Williams Landing; and
• Employing two more people to the council’s economic development unit to help business start-ups, attracting new business and promoting Wyndham as a premier business destination.
The council’s 2017-18 budget and resident submissions will be considered, and voted on, at the June 27 council meeting.
