The Hillier View: MPs in hiding

Kevin Hillier would like answers from the state government

I  can’t believe the arrogance – and that’s the only word to describe it – of the state government and the way it has treated commuters from the west with the 18 months of traffic misery we’re facing. I know car parking is an issue in the west, but turning the Westgate into one is not the solution.

I want to congratulate our local state member, Tim Pallas, who I like as a bloke, as he seems to have acquired a super power – invisibility. I haven’t seen or heard a word from our state treasurer and former roads minister. While it’s his government that has done this to all of us, surely he could at least have said something.

I’ve always felt one of the major roles of elected representatives is to be the voice of the people. But it appears we have no voice, probably because we’re suffering laryngitis from screaming our heads off while inching our way to the city. And I mean inching. Why do we just cop this? Or, more importantly, why do the powers in charge just dismiss us?

Our politically minded readers know it’s because you could just about put up a cardboard cut-out during an election in the west under the Labor banner and you’d win and cynics may suggest that’s actually the case in some seats this side of the Westgate.

I don’t have a solution, so I’m keen to hear your thoughts on what we can do in the next 18 months to cope, and to send a very clear message to Tim and the rest of this government that we won’t cop this sort of treatment again.

Relay for life

Relay for Life is one of the most inspiring and brilliant events held anywhere. Anyone who has been to one is touched for ever and, let’s face it, cancer touches all our lives at some stage.

The Wyndham Relay for Life is celebrating 15 years and will be held on the weekend of April 16-17 at the VU Athletics track in Hoppers Lane. You can get more information on its Facebook page or by visiting wyndham@relayforlife.org.au.

Anne Marie Dey and the people behind this event are the salt of the earth and anything you can do to help or donate would be greatly appreciated. ■
