Firefighters from several brigades attended a house fire in Werribee South yesterday evening.

Werribee CFA’s Fourth Lieutenant Brett Packer said his brigade was called to the Duncans Road blaze just before 6pm.

He said that when firefighters arrived on the scene, the north side of the property was already “well involved” in the fire.

“It took around a hard 40 minutes to get the fire under control,” he said.

Mr Parker said the Werribee CFA’s First Lieutenant Damien Milloy and Second Lieutenant Paul Ryan, who acted as the incident’s fire-ground operations manager, made the decision to call on “a number of resources” including brigades from Melton.

“There were 21 trucks and support vehicles,” Mr Packer said.

“It was a combined effort between the MFB and CFA.”

In addition, while all local CFA crews attended the Werribee South fire, a pumper from Diamond Creek visited Wyndham to assist with other emergencies in the area.

Mr Tucker said the post fire clean-up was continuing in Werribee South today, and that a fire investigator was on the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

Last night, a Werribee firefighter was also taken to hospital by paramedics, as a precautionary measure.
