A fire has destroyed part of the community centre building at Ecoville Park in Tarneit.

CFA crews were called to the Cindia Crescent park just after 3pm this afternoon.

Truganina Fire Brigade captain Mark Hatton said the building was “completely gutted” by the blaze.

He said although the cause of the fire was still being investigated, it is believed to be suspicious.

Mr Hatton said that firefighters conducted a search of the building, but found no-one inside.

He said the fire “completely gutted” the park building, which is known as a community centre, although it is rarely used for any community activities.

Mr Hatton said that the Truganina fire brigade’s pumper, tanker and Forward Command Vehicle attended the fire, along with tankers from both the Hoppers Crossing and Point Cook CFA units. The Eltham CFA also provided support.

With the past few years, Ecoville Park has become known as a hot-spot for youth to gather and participate in vandalism and anti-social behavior.
