Awards all stitched up

Hundreds of colourful outfits were paraded down the catwalk at the Fashion Awards Australia, held at the Encore Event Centre in Hoppers Crossing, on Friday.

The annual awards, of which Wyndham councillor Heather Marcus is the director and founder, featured 285 entries this year.

Out of several awards handed out on the night, St Albans Secondary College received the John Claringbold Memorial School Cup, which is presented to the school which amasses the most points during the competition.

St Albans Secondary College student Julie Lay won the years 11/12 designer of the year gong. She also placed third in two other categories.

Fellow St Albans college student Amritjit Kaur received the years 9/10 designer of the year award and placed second in two additional sections of the competition.

College student Taylor Dinh placed first in the calico category for years 9/10, and Holly Smart placed first in the evening wear category.

Wollert resident Errick Tan Phong Kim received first place in both the TAFE/Open designers race wear and Australian gown of the year categories.

Alexandra Lopes from Thomas Carr College in Tarneit won the years 9/10 chic day wear category, while another student from the school, Tayla Eckley, won the year 11/12 calico category.

In the other year 11/12 sections of the awards, Holly Robertson from Ballarat High School won the recycled wearable
art category, and Isobel Unwin and Lily
Dolan from Ballarat Grammar won the upcycling wear and chic day wear sections, respectively.

The winners of other awards included Amelie Thompson from Templestowe College and Bella Osbourne from Geelong College.
