A soil-turning ceremony has marked the beginning of civil works at the Windermere estate in Mambourin.

Property developer Country Garden Australia hosted the event on Thursday at its Greens Road site, where 4700 houses will be built across 363 hectares. The area will become home to an estimated 14,800 residents.

Country Garden Australia chief executive Dr Guotao Hu joined representatives from construction partner BMD Urban, other contractors and consultants for the ceremony.

Dr Hu said Country Garden Australia would “be here on the ground for many years to come”.

More than 3000 people have registered their interest in Windermere since April, with more than 260 lots sold to date.

Windermere will include three public schools and one private school, a community centre, indoor recreation centre, childcare facility and sporting ovals for AFL and cricket, plus netball courts.

“Windermere is designed for people seeking an active and engaged lifestyle, it will also feature over three kilometres of walking paths set amongst 50 hectares of open space, including a wetlands, parklands, sports areas and reserves,” Dr Hu said.

Country Garden Australia will host a family fun day on Saturday. Attendees can enjoy a vegie patch workshop, science show, magician, balloon artist, face-painter, henna tattooist, taco truck, Indian food truck and a donut, cronut and cruffin station.

“As a community that is designed for families, we wanted to recognise and celebrate the importance of the family in the make-up of the future Windermere estate,” said Dr Hu.

The family fun day will be held from 1-4pm on Saturday at the Windermere sales gallery, 275 Greens Road, Mambourin.
