The countdown to Christmas is on at Point Cook as the suburb prepares for its annual carols concert.
Festive cheer will take over Sanctuary Lakes’ Breezewater Reserve on Saturday, December 6, for Christmas at the Lake.
Now in its ninth year, the community get-together is organised by local businesses, groups and residents.
This year’s event will feature performances and Christmas carols by residents and schools.
Children’s rides, an animal farm and face-painting will be followed by a visit from Santa and a fireworks finalé.
Event chairman Bruce Cahoon describes the event as a true community celebration.
“It’s put together by a volunteer committee and supported by the local CFA, Lions and Rotary clubs,” he said.
“It’s a big effort supported by hundreds of volunteer man hours.”
Last year’s concert was the largest to date, with more than 9000 people attending.
Mr Cahoon said the event displayed the community spirit that had developed in Point Cook. Christmas at the Lake will run from 2-9.30pm.
A free shuttle bus service will run from Sanctuary Lakes shopping centre, Murnong Street at Point Cook Town Centre, Woolworths on Sneydes Roads and Sanctuary Lakes South Boulevard from 1.30pm. For more details, go to www.christmasatthelakes.org.au.
