WYNDHAM WEST GROWTH: Harpley estate gets go-ahead

Construction of a $1 billion housing estate in Wyndham’s west will begin next month.

Lend Lease’s Harpley estate received the green light from the state government last week after Planning Minister Matthew Guy approved a $533 million developer contribution plan.

The development, which has been in the pipeline for about three years, will be part of the Black Forest Road South precinct, which was approved by the government last year and is bound by McGrath, Bulban and Black Forest roads.

The Harpley development will occupy 435 of the precinct’s 508 hectares.

Mr Guy said Harpley would provide 4000 new homes as well as transport links and community facilities. The estate will eventually be home to about 12,000 people and will feature more than 60 hectares of lakes and wetlands, a future waterfront town centre and three schools.

The estate will have direct access from the Princes Freeway via Armstrong Road.

Mr Guy has also approved precinct structure plans for Wyndham’s west at Ballan Road and Westbrook, allowing 11,400 houses to be built over the next 30 years.

“Each precinct will benefit from early infrastructure delivery, with access to key services and well-designed open space and community facilities,” he said.
