Wyndham Business Awards: Werribee zoo boss does top job

Wyndham’s first Business Person of the Year, Werribee Open Range Zoo director Sally Lewis, started her career as a safari guide at the zoo when she was in her early 20s.

Even then she thought she would have the top job one day. “When I left for another job, I kept all my African wildlife books and I always thought I’d be back,” Ms Lewis recalls.

Last year she was named the inaugural Business Person of the Year in the Wyndham Business Awards. And last week she signed a contract that will keep her in the zoo’s top job for another five years.

With nominations for this year’s business awards closing on June 27, Ms Lewis says she’s interested to see who wins.

“For me, it’s not about whether they run a big or small business; it’s more about someone who can drive success through their team.”
