Bellbridge is within reach of the Williamstown and District Cricket Association’s A turf top four after a nailbiting one-wicket win against West Newport at Loft Reserve on Saturday.
Wests posted a competitive 9-171, despite the best efforts of Bellbridge bowlers Mark Croswell (3-28) and Patrick Lee (2-34).
It wasn’t designed to be an easy run chase and Bellbridge had its ups and downs. It slumped to 6-58, but recovered on the back of a crucial 60-run seventh-wicket stand between Scott Walker (47) and Croswell (37).
That partnership paved the way for some late heroics from Andrew Wilks, who batted with the tail to make 22 not out and sealed victory for the ’Bridge.
