Got to hand it to some hairy truths

Tarneit actor Tim Maloney readily admits he had a hand in being upstaged by something resembling Cookie Monster in his latest performance.

In fact, he had both hands in it, as a puppeteer working Trekkie Monster.

Maloney also provides the hairy creature’s speaking and singing voices in musical comedy Avenue Q.

The show, which he says is Sesame Street for adults, explores coming-of-age issues.

Maloney, 37, says it took five months to learn how to work life-size puppets Trekkie and green-faced Nicky.

“The puppets can do and say things that humans can’t,” he says. Avenue Q will be at the Geelong Performing Arts Centre on November 1, 2, 8 and 9.
