A replica of a plane credited with launching military flight in Australia has taken to the skies above Point Cook.
A Bristol Boxkite replica, built at the Royal Australian Air Force Museum in Point Cook, made its maiden flight last Wednesday under the control of retired Air Vice-Marshal Mark Skidmore (pictured at the controls).
The plane, which was built by retired Group Captain Ron Gretton (left) and retired Wing Commander Geoff Matthews (right), will eventually be displayed at the museum. A boxkite was first flown in Australia in March, 1914.
The replica will feature in a centenary air show at the museum on March 1 and 2 next year.
