Rhino calf makes her Werribee zoo debut

WERRIBEE Open Range Zoo’s newest addition, a southern white rhino calf, made her debut last Wednesday as zookeepers continue her around-the-clock care.

The baby rhino is yet to be named but is affectionately called Pepper by staff. Born at 69 kilograms to mother Sisi, the calf now weighs 80 kilograms.

Environment and Climate Change Minister Ryan Smith said the response to the birth had been heartwarming.

“I know our community will watch every development of this beautiful baby rhino because she’s so very precious to her species.”

The calf will be introduced to the herd at six weeks of age.
