A MAN has been charged with murder after a body was found in Tarneit on Thursday night.
Homicide squad detectives charged Kritsingh Dookhea, 35, of Tarneit, with one count of murder during an out-of-sessions court hearing on Friday night. Dookhea was charged after police conducted an autopsy.
He appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday, where he was remanded until September 2. He did not make an application for bail.
Police said the body of a man aged in his 30s was found at his house in Felicity Drive, Tarneit, at about 11pm on Thursday.
Police arrived at the house after responding to reports of a street fight.
Detectives cordoned off part of the street for most of the following day while they checked a black BMW parked outside for fingerprints and scoured the street for evidence.
Neighbour Anuraj Singh said he was shocked when police and paramedics rushed into their street.
“My wife saw the ambulance and I was confused by what was going on.
“I came out . . . and was a bit shocked at what was going on. A police officer came out and told me a man was dead.” Dut Deng , a father-of-two who lives opposite the house, said the incident had left him worried for his young children.
“When we moved in here in September last year, we thought it was a very quiet neighbourhood. We thought it was a good place to live, but when you see things like this . . . it’s terrible,” he said
Nearby resident, Billie, who did not want her surname used, said “it’s very scary what happened”.
