TOOLS are being stolen from vehicles and building sites around Wyndham on a daily basis, according to crime prevention officer Craig McDonald.
Senior Constable McDonald said the high number of tradesmen in Wyndham had resulted in a spike in tool thefts.
He urged tradies to make sure their tools were locked up and engraved with their name and licence number. Police believe thieves are targeting vans and utes parked in residential streets at night, with everything from hammers to expensive power tools taken.
Senior Constable McDonald said thieves were also taking tools from building sites and utes during the day.
“Always make sure you lock up your van and secure building sites after you’ve finished for the day – use bigger and more secure locks. Make a habit of taking an extra couple of minutes to back the vehicle into the shed. Make sure any tools are covered up and out of view. If you’ve got an alarm fitted to your vehicle, make sure you set it.”
