Werribee City leaves its run too late

Werribee City is off to a shaky start in its National Premier league 2 west campaign.

The Bees are still searching for an elusive first win three rounds into the season after a 2-1 loss to Sunshine George Cross on the road at Chaplin Reserve on Saturday.

The Georgies were in full command at half-time with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by Souheil Azagane and Jagajeet Shrestha.

The Bees pegged a goal back in the second half through Maselas Lian Bawi Thang, but it came too late – in the 92nd minute – to enable a meaningful comeback.

This Saturday, Werribee City will face another side without a win, Whittlesea Ranges in a crucial fourth-round encounter at Epping Stadium.

Whittlesea Ranges also have two draws from three games.

Meanwhile, the FFA Cup first round was drawn on Monday after the final round of qualifying took place at the weekend.

Point Cook was the first local side out of the pot, drawing a home tie against FC Strathmore.

Truganina Hornets will also benefit from home ground advantage when they entertain Twin City Wanderers.

The matches will take place this weekend, but times and venues were still to be determined at the time of Star Weekly’s deadline.
