The stage is set for a classic battle of Wyndham.
Hoppers Crossing and Werribee have met twice this summer, once in a practice match and another time in a charity game. But the niceties end there.
The two local sides will square off in a one-day pre-Christmas Sub-District cracker at Hogans Road Reserve on Saturday with more than points on offer.
To the victor go the bragging rights for the next 12 months, while the loser will have a spanner thrown in finals plans.
The best part is that both sides are in hot form and will have no excuses.
Werribee once again bludgeoned itself to victory with the bat on Saturday, passing Malvern’s 9-258 with five wickets to spare.
Shaun Dean (104) and Tim O’Brien (93) kept up their white-hot form with a 183-run partnership for the third wicket.
It was back-to-back centuries for Dean, who has made 444 in five digs at an unthinkable average of 222 after being out only twice.
Perhaps it will be Hoppers Crossing who can find a weakness in Dean’s batting, as the Cats showed their bowling might in a 153-run win over Moorabbin on Saturday.
After making 6-287, they bowled out the visitors for 134, with Alex Wyatt (4-23) and Greg Kennedy (3-16) the main destroyers.
The first ball in the Wyndham showdown will be bowled at 12.30pm.
