Sodamaco back on board with Werribee Tigers

Michael Sodomaco will be back on the front line for the new-look Werribee Tigers in 2016.

The Tigers begin their full alignment with AFL club North Melbourne in the next VFL season and the small defender- midfielder will again be leading from the front.

Sodomaco skippered the Tigers for the first time last season but was hit by a leg injury in pre-season and a hamstring injury prior to round one.

Tigers coach John Lamont said it was a tough initiation into the captaincy.

“He wanted to be out there with the boys but was stuck in the rehab group,” he said.

“He returned to the team after a couple of weeks in the development team and really started to lead the boys well.

“Michael has the respect of the playing group and I really look forward to working with him to drive some positive outcomes.”

Sodomaco played 10 games last season to make it 43 in his career.

Captaincy was nothing new for the 24 year old, who played that role as a teenager with the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup.

Originally from nearby Lara, Sodomaco was thrilled to re-sign with the Tigers.

“It was an easy decision to sign on for season 2016,” he said. “First and foremost, this is a club with great people who have made my previous five years here thoroughly enjoyable.

“The club is supported by fantastic staff, who leave no stone unturned in their efforts to help every player develop as people and footballers.”

Sodomaco is excited by the talent already on Werribee’s list.

The addition of more stars from the North Melbourne list could take the Tigers to the summit of the VFL.

“The club is entering a very exciting phase on the field and my unwavering belief is that everything is in place for an assault on the premiership race,” he said.

“We have been building towards this for a number of seasons and have put together an exciting, young list of players.

“We enter into a full alignment with North Melbourne, with whom we have had a terrific relationship in previous years and who will now provide us with some more talented players each week.”
