Werribee is treading water in Bowls Victoria division 1.
The Bees entered the season with a lot of hype but have so far failed to deliver on their promise.
A winless November has them a long way from where they want to be – among the finals contenders.
Unless some wins start to come, the Bees could soon be on a downward spiral and in the relegation conversation.
With his side fourth-last on the ladder after Saturday’s 75-72 loss to Essendon at Chirnside Park on Saturday, Bees skip Snowy Barker knows his side is in dangerous territory.
“I’m too scared to look,” he told Star Weekly.
Werribee was left to rue an under-performing rink in the tight loss to the Bombers. Rob Panton went down by 14 to continue a barren run for his quartet. That result overshadowed solid performances from Mick O’Neil (+9), Barker (+3) and Peter Ware (-1).
Changes have been forecast for Panton’s rink after the heavy loss – and they could include the skip.
“We’re going to change it up again this week,” Barker said. “It gets to a point when you have to. I spoke to Rob about it and there’s no drama. He’s been beaten in his last few now.”
The Bees’ terrible 2-6 record has mostly been a matter of individual rinks letting them down.
They have a positive shot difference because their losses have mostly been close.
Yet the points are not coming so there is a bit of panic in the camp.
They have also dropped their past two matches at Watton Street, which historically has been a fortress.
Barker will continue to back his club to find a way out of the hole.
“It’s frustrating … but we’ll go out next week and try to turn it around,” he said.
The Bees have a must-win clash with bottom side Altona (2) away on Saturday.
In division 2, Hoppers Crossing was pipped 90-83 by finals contender Port Melbourne but still picked up six valuable points to avoid falling to the bottom of the ladder.
Hoppers will square off with last-placed Rosamond away on Saturday.
In mid-week premier division, newly promoted Werribee has lost heavily to Glenroy and Lalor in consecutive weeks.
The Bees have maintained their spot in the top four despite a last-start 77-43 loss to Lalor.
