Werribee was left to rue a lack of consistency against Glenroy in its second match of the Bowls Victoria pennant season.
After thrashing Moonee Ponds in the first match of division 1, section 3, the Bees found the going a lot tougher against Glenroy.
They won only one rink as Glenroy romped home 16 (87)-2 (72) on its own turf.
Bees skip Snowy Barker said it took time for his side to adjust to the conditions.
“It was disappointing,” he said. “There was a lack of consistency early on with our players not picking up the pace of the green. Michael O’Neil’s rink was the only one that won.”
Barker said finals were the club’s aim this season.
“At this stage we’re hoping to make the top four, but we’ll reassess once we have played every team once,” he said.
“We play Preston away from home this week and that will be another gauge of where we are compared to the other teams.”
Werribee has been boosted this season by the return of former Victorian player Brett Dodd, who has had a year off bowls. Before that he played in premier division with Altona.
Peter Yasar and Anthony Briggs have also returned to the club, inclusions that help offset the loss of young gun Jayden Christie.
Christie, a Victorian representative, has moved to Altona in premier division.
In division 2, section 1, Hoppers Crossing lost 16 (90)-2 (60) against Yarraville Footscray (2).
