The Wyndham council chambers are known as the setting for some heated contests, but not the kind that will be played out next week.
Hardcore soccer fans will wake up before the sun rises to watch the final of the World Cup at an event hosted by the council.
The event will feature giveaways, prizes, a healthy breakfast and the opportunity to provide feedback on the council’s Cultural Diversity Policy and Action Plan.
The plan will guide the council’s approach in working with multicultural communities and ensure the diversity of people in Wyndham City is recognised, respected and supported to contribute as active citizens.
Councillor Gautam Gupta said even though the Socceroos were no longer in the World Cup, there were plenty of reasons for residents to join in the fun.
“Not only will you be able to cheer for the teams who make the final, but residents can catch up with their neighbours, meet new friends, enjoy a free breakfast and have their say on Council’s Cultural Diversity Policy and Action Plan,” he said
“Soccer is not called ‘the world game’ for nothing and residents are encouraged to wave their countries’ flags and wear their colours to the event and get to know people from across the world who now call Wyndham home.”
The World Cup final event is on at the Wyndham Civic Centre Functions Area, 45 Princes Highway, Werribee on Monday, July 14, from 4.45am.
