Manor Lakes is in danger of missing the Western Region Football League division 2 finals after the result of its round four win against Glenorden was overturned.
A Storm player received two separate yellow cards during the weekend match, which, under league rules, should see the player sent off for the remainder of the game.
However, the player returned to the field after his second yellow card.
Manor Lakes went on to win the game by nine points, 8.10 (58) to 7.7 (49).
WRFL chief executive Bob Tregear confirmed the result had been overturned after a hearing on Monday night.
“Glenorden had lodged a protest which was referred to the IHC [independent hearing court],” Tregear said.
“The IHC recommended that, among other things, the game be awarded to Glenorden based on the fact that, at the IHC hearing, the evidence confirmed that there were 18 players on the ground in the latter stages of the game at least.”
The result has huge implications for the division 2 ladder with Glenorden to jump from third to second. The club’s record will also improve from 5-1 to 6-0.
Manor Lakes will fall from sixth to seventh.
Glen Orden football manager Dean Comensoli said his club was happy with the outcome.
“We felt as though the rules weren’t adhered to which, in our opinion, affected the result of the game. In terms of the overall standing of the season, it’s massive. It’s going to be pretty tight up the top at the end of the season.”
