A Werribee man has spoken of his shock at finding a boy as young as 12 breaking into his home.
Charles Allan said he was woken in his Werribee home on Thursday night by a smashing sound.
Mr Allan said the intruder was aged between 12 and 14.
“I heard ‘bang’, I thought ‘oh my god, what the hell has happened’, so I’ve walked out to the kitchen, I’ve looked to the left and the light was on, and this little young fella was jumping out my window,” he told 3AW.
Mr Allan, 47, said he ran after the intruder but gave up the chase once he reached the driveway.
On returning to his home, he was relieved to discover his beloved Kiss memorabilia was untouched.
“He’s only got a backpack with my wife’s passport and all that stuff – she’s got an operation on Monday and she’s going to need her Medicare card – so unbelievable.”
Mr Allan said the burglar may have escaped with more if he hadn’t crashed into a 40-year-old record player Mr Allan had been trying to sell on Gumtree.
“When he jumped into my front window, it’s knocked over my record player,” he told 3AW.
“I’ve got an old 1975 record player …because we’re on floorboards, that’s what woke me up.”
Mr Allan described the intruder as aged between 12 and 14. Police are investigating.
Crime Statistics Agency figures show there was a 14.2 per cent rise in crime across Wyndham in the 12 months to September.
