Tarneit teenager Brie Parker is the youngest finalist in this year’s Wyndham Art Prize.

More than 130 artists from across the country entered the Wyndham council competition.

Brie’s artwork, titled

Ragdoll, is among works from the contest which will be on display at the Wyndham Art Gallery until June 11.

Brie said she was “stoked” to be named as a finalist in the competition.

She said she started painting and drawing about three to four years ago.

“I just enjoy it, I enjoy the creative process, it’s fun,” she said.

“The biggest challenge is trying to figure out how to put what I picture in my mind onto paper.”

Brie, who is in year 12, is also studying studio arts and a certificate in visual design.

“I would like to study art at university and become an independent artist,” she said.

Brie said she also enjoyed volunteering once a week at the Werribee library.

“I listen to children read and help them out when they have trouble,” she said.

Finalists from the Wyndham Art Prize are also in contention for the competition’s People’s Choice Award. Anyone who wants to vote for their favourite finalist can do so up until June 4. Details: wyndham.vic.gov.au.
