Wyndham tops state virus count

Wyndham residents have recorded the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in the state, for the second day in a row.

As of today, 265 active cases of the virus which have been diagnosed in Wyndham residents (compared to 249 active cases yesterday).

Other municipalities in the top five include Hume (251 active cases), Melbourne (225 active cases), Moonee Valley (219 cases) and Brimbank (180 cases).

Victoria has recorded 317 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, with the total number of cases now at 4750.

The overall total has increased by 302, after 15 cases were reclassified – largely due to duplication.

Twenty-eight of the new cases have been linked to outbreaks and 289 cases are under investigation.

Two new deaths have been reported since yesterday – both men in their eighties who died in hospital.

To date, 29 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), 109 people with coronavirus are in hospital, including 29 people in intensive care.

The DHHS has also reported that 157 cases of the virus have been linked to the outbreak at Al-Taqwa College in Truganina.

Twenty-three cases have been linked to the Glendale Aged Care facility in Werribee.
