Two Wyndham suburbs have been named the most affordable areas to buy a house more than 20 kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD.
Figures released by property data and analytics provider CoreLogic last week named the top 10 “bargain” suburbs to buy a house, both within 10 kilometres of Melbourne and more than 20 kilometres from Melbourne.
Werribee and Hoppers Crossing placed first and second on the latter list.
Werribee’s median house value was $486,022 in March this year, making it the most affordable suburb more than 20 kilometres outside of Melbourne, while Hoppers Crossing was the second most affordable with a median house value of $527,217.
Roxburgh Park ($529,134) placed third, followed by Craigieburn ($530,890), Mernda ($544,008) and Epping ($549,439).
Tarneit placed seventh on the list with a median value of $550,439 and Truganina ninth with a median value of $558,376.
In contrast, for “affordable” houses located within 10 kilometres of Melbourne, Coburg North placed first with a median value of $736,820, Maidstone second on $738,738, West Footscray third on $792,981 and Footscray fourth on $801,511.
Meanwhile, according to the March Domain House Price Report, Brookfield, Bacchus Marsh, Kurunjang, Eynesbury, Burnside Heights and Truganina were all among the top 20 suburbs for median house price rises in Melbourne.
Cheaper prices for houses in Melbourne’s west were the main reason David Dickson and his partner Petra Foulds bought a three-bedroom home in Kurunjang, moving in a month ago.
Kurunjang was in the top 10 suburbs to have house prices rise, with a median boost of 8.5 per cent to $439,500.
Mr Dickson is an aircraft engineer while Ms Foulds is a retail manager and their home is close to where both work.
“We’re planning to be here for the next 10 to 15 years – maybe even longer,” Mr Dickson said.
