Get ready to push the button for some old fashioned fun – a set of four retro-style arcade game machines has been given to the Wyndham community.

The machines were built by young people from the west who took part in a work for the dole program aimed at developing skills in carpentry, computer development, engineering, electrics and spray painting.

The initiative was funded by the Salvation Army’s Employment Plus and run by not-for-profit Envision Employment Services.

After the machines were constructed, they were donated to Wyndham council’s youth services department.

Learning city portfolio holder Josh Gilligan said a lot of work had gone into building the arcade machines.

“I’m sure our local young people will get a lot of use out of them,” Cr Gilligan said.

“Thank you to everyone involved in this project, especially the young people who have managed to bring some retro charm to Wyndham.”

The machines will be installed at the Tarneit Community Centre, the Point Cook Community Centre and the Hoppers Crossing Youth Resource Centre.
