Tarneit park safety fear

Residents living near a Tarneit park are angry about vandalism and anti-social behaviour at the site.

In recent months, the playground equipment and buildings at Ecoville Community Park in Cindia Crescent have been covered with graffiti.

The pavilion’s have been smashed and boarded up and rubbish and drug paraphernalia left inside.

A resident who lives close to the park, but who asked for their name to be withheld, said the park had not been “well managed” for the past few years.

“We have been finding used needles there and it is being used for purposes that it is not supposed to,” he said.

The resident said that on many week nights, young people would gather in the park, where they started fights and set fires.

The man said most residents were too scared to use the park for recreation or to let their children play there.

“We want the area to be safe,” he said.

The man said people living near the park had started using a social media app to alert each other of potential safety risks at the park and around their neighbourhood.

The park does not come under the responsibility of Wyndham council.

Instead, the park is considered private property and comes under the authority of an owners’ corporation managed by Strata Data.

Star Weekly contacted Strata Data but did not receive a response.
