For Molly Cummins, wishes really do come true.
The 18-year-old Werribee woman this week had her wish granted by the Make a Wish Foundation when she received a brand new Hyundai i30.
Molly, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in January 2014, said that after the diagnosis she struggled to comprehend what she was experiencing.
“It was surreal,” she said. “It didn’t really sink in until a few months later. Everybody around me was so emotional and I just really didn’t take it in.”
In the months that followed, she had extensive treatment and surgery, leaving her feeling ill and unable to work or study.
In the lead-up to her 18th birthday, she had saved a little money but didn’t have enough to purchase her first car.
“Make a Wish came around and asked what I wanted,” he said. “I asked for a car but didn’t think it would actually happen.
“Here I am standing with my brand new car – it’s such a huge deal. Buying a car is such a large investment … having it saves me from a lot of stress.”
The car was donated by Werribee Hyundai.
Hyundai regional general manager Gavin Donaldson said giving Molly a car was a rewarding experience for him and his company.
“We’ve helped make her wish come true, and I’ve really enjoyed making it happen,” he said.
