Shoppers and other visitors to Werribee’s CBD will soon find it easier to get carparks following changes to business parking permit conditions.
That’s the word from Wyndham council, which will restrict business parking permits to two carparks bookending the city centre.
From January 2, business permit holders will be able to park all day at either the Cherry Street carpark or the West End carpark slated to open later this month. The have a combined 329 spaces.
Businesses will be issued with new permits for one of these carparks, based on their location within Werribee CBD. These carparks will also be open to the general public and
will have free three-hour parking spaces available.
Currently, traders and employees with a permit can park all day in one of 169 spaces at the Cherry Street, Riverbend, Troup Wyndham Cultural Centre and Synnot Street carparks.
Deputy mayor Walter Villagonzalo said the move, done in consultation with the Wyndham Business and Tourism Association and the Werribee CBD Landowners Group, would free up short-term parking spaces for visitors.
“The Werribee city centre is undergoing a $250 million transformation that will see 1400 new parking spaces servicing new businesses, new residents and new workers as well as the general public, 5000 square metres of office space, 2500 square metres of retail and cafe space, 300 residential apartments and a new Integrated Community Learning Hub of over 8000 square metres built in the heart of Werribee,” Cr Villagonzalo said.
“This major redevelopment will see approximately 700 new residents living in the Werribee city centre and will attract thousands of new visitors to the area.
“To make way for these changes, council is opening up more parking to people who want to shop, dine and socialise in the Werribee city centre.”
