This weekend’s Weerama festival will go ahead as planned after festival organisers secured all the necessary permits for the event at the eleventh-hour.
Festival organisers secured a place of public entertainment permit today, only two days out from the festival.
Weerama president Marcel Mahfoud has spent the week in crisis talks with the council after it turned down a request to cover the costs of traffic management and rubbish collection for the event four weeks ago.
The council would not issue a festival permit until the Weerama committee could supply both a traffic management plan and supporting documentation that detailed how it would be carried out and funded.
The day-long festival, which will run along Watton Street and Station Place precinct this Sunday from 10am until 4pm, will include the annual parade, the Werribee Tigers’ season launch, the W Factor talent competition, market stalls and rides.
